Paraguay Meets Asia: Soy, Beef and the Bioceanic Advantage

Paraguay is the quiet outperformer of South America: a simple 10-10-10 tax regime, world-scale beef and soybean production, and new road corridors that reach Chilean Pacific ports in hours instead of weeks. For Asian buyers, it is a stable, low-cost supply platform still under the radar.

Why Asian buyers are looking south

Japanese trading houses and Korean feed mills need reliable alternative origins. Paraguay offers scale at lower cost than Brazil's interior, improving traceability season by season, and agro-industry powered by Itaipú — some of the cheapest clean energy in the region.

Products with traction in Asia

Beef leads the list, followed by soybeans and meal for the feed industry. Niche crops open premium doors: chia, sesame and stevia are already requested by health-food importers in Japan and Korea, and rendered proteins feed Asia's booming pet-food sector.

Logistics: the Bi-oceanic Corridor redraws the map

The Paraguay–Argentina–Chile corridor puts Antofagasta and Iquique closer than Santos for northern production zones, while the Paraguay–Paraná waterway remains the volume workhorse. Combining both lets buyers mix speed and cost per contract.

Entry playbook

Register plants with SENACSA (animal) or SENAVE (plant origin) first; China additionally requires GACC listing. Anchor visibility at Foodex Japan or FHA Singapore, and close with a local representative who can manage samples, phytosanitary files and payment terms in the buyer's language.
